In the 1890’s, America developed a series of Art Colonies, one of the most prominent on Cape Cod. The Cape continues to beckon and inspire fine artists with its brilliant light, its enhanced colors, its scenes of simple natural beauty, and its people. The Cape Museum of Fine Arts was founded in 1981 to focus on these artists and preserve their work on the Cape.

The Cahoon Museum is named in honor of the local contemporary primitive painter, Ralph Cahoon (1910-1982) and is housed in his former home/studio, a 1775 Georgian colonial farmhouse. Cahoon's works, as well as other regional artists, make up the permanent collection. The Museum also presents five to seven changing exhibitions annually. Free admission, Tuesday-Saturday, 10-4.

The Cape Cod Art Association is a non-profit group of over 1,000 members, continuously operating since its inception in 1948. It serves its members and the community with a variety of fine art programs and events. Its custom designed facilities include two galleries for monthly exhibitions, a gift shop, and two studios for classes, demonstrations and workshops in a variety of art media. The Cape Cod Art Association is open year round, seven days a week – Mondays through Saturdays 9am-4pm, and Sundays 12pm-4pm. Exhibits are free and open to the public.

Creative Hands is a contemporary Cape Cod gallery of Fine Crafts and more. It provides local and visiting patrons of Cape Cod a place to view and/or purchase one-of-a-kind handcrafted artwork for everyday use and enjoyment in a formal gallery setting. The Gallery features the works of an eclectic cross section of both established and emerging artists: glass blowers, jewelry makers, potters, wood turners, furniture makers, print makers, photographers, painters, sculptural artists and more. Each piece of artwork is displayed in a manner so as to give it space to be viewed and enjoyed individually. Jim Irvine, the owner of Creative Hands Gallery, is a long time potter. Having grown up in Lincoln, Rhode Island, and having attended art school in Providence, he participated in many Fine Art and Craft Festivals throughout the years. The next logical step in his career was to open a Fine Art and Craft Gallery, giving him a place to show his own work as well as that of other very talented artists he's met at the various craft shows, and throughout his life.

I work in acrylics, watercolors, and oriental brush painting. My acrylics and watercolors include New England landscapes in which I try to express feelings of solitude and try to use color and light to carry the viewer into a new reality. Oriental brush painting affords me an opportunity to interweave Eastern serenity and simplicity of line, color and composition together with Western form and techniques. For me each painting leads to a new problem to be solved and a new feeling to be explored. My hope is that the end result creates a bridge to the viewer.

Received A.B. Goucher College, Fine Arts; E. M. Harvard University. New Hope School of Art; Worcester Art Museum School; Falmouth Artists' Guild. Has had several one-person shows, awards, and been in many juried shows.

Accepts commissions; represented in galleries.
